Welcome to Second Grade!

My name is Melissa Lawson. I am beyond thrilled to be teaching second grade for the 2025-2026 school year! It is not lost on me the unique opportunity I have to make a difference in the lives of students each day. My goal is for each student to continue to develop a love for learning through a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment. We will strive to build a kind, collaborative, community-oriented space that celebrates culture and promotes good citizenship. We will be curious, compassionate, intentional and inquisitive. We will set high expectations and build upon rigor for each other and support one another as we grow.

About Me

I have been in the education industry for more than ten years in various roles, though, this is my third year as a classroom teacher. I could not be more thrilled. Prior to moving into this profession, I spent ten years in the broadcast/public relations sector and feel the blend of the two industries has provided me a broad background from which to pull strategies.

I have an amazing family! My incredible husband of 19 years is an endless support system and my best friend. I have two children; Ryley, 17 years old, is in the 12th grade, and my son, Connor, 15 years old, is in the 10th grade. They are both incredible young adults and make me proud every day. I will likely talk about them often in our work.

In my spare time I am a huge fan of theme parties. I love Zumba as a fitness routine. I am powered by coffee and love dark chocolate. The beach is my happy place and I love the color of the ocean - well, when it is turquoise.
