Ms. Lisa Smith

Welcome! My name is Ms. Lisa Smith, and I am thrilled to be your child’s 5th grade English Language Arts and Reading teacher here at Thomas Elementary. This school year marks my 13th year of teaching, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue doing what I love—helping students grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.

I am a proud HBCU graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). In addition, I hold a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My educational journey has given me a strong foundation for creating lessons that are both meaningful and rigorous, while also preparing students for success beyond the classroom.

I was born and raised in Arkansas and now proudly call Texas home. I am also a mom of two wonderful children who inspire me daily to be the best version of myself in and out of the classroom.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll often find me enjoying live concerts, planning my next travel adventure, or journaling to capture memories and reflections. I believe that bringing my passions into the classroom helps create a learning environment that is both engaging and authentic.

My goal is to make our classroom a place where every student feels welcomed, challenged, and encouraged to take risks in their learning. Together, we will explore stories, sharpen our writing skills, and develop strategies that will last a lifetime.
